Machine Learning Techniques in Healthcare Industry

Machine Learning techniques are being explored successfully in almost every field like computing science, social science, and intelligence science. These tools and techniques also provide promising applications in the healthcare industry like disease prediction/detection, medical image computing, analysis of Electronic Health Records (EHR), processing of medical documents, extracting genetic information from patients, etc. In this technical talk, I will be discussing the role of machine learning techniques for better prediction/detection of different chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, etc. Also, will discuss how it will support the patients and candidate patients to monitor and manage the disease at earlier stages. Furthermore, will present and discuss the tools and techniques that are available to support healthcare providers in making better decisions pertaining to different diseases.

Dr. Shahid Mohammad Ganie is working as an Assistant Professor at the AI Research Centre in the School of Business at Woxsen University and holds the Chair Professor--Manjeet Rege Professor of Data Science and AI. He obtained his Ph.D (Machine Learning in Healthcare Informatics) and a master's degree in Computer Applications (MCA), where he was a Gold Medalist, from the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, BGSB University, Jammu and Kashmir-UT, India. He also holds a B.Sc in Mathematics from the University of Kashmir. He has been a passionate teacher with more than 2 years of teaching experience and research experience.

​His research interests include Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Medical Image Computing, Healthcare Informatics, and Smart Healthcare Systems. He has published more than 25 research articles in refereed journals, edited books, and reputed international conferences. He has two patents in healthcare domain. He received the Best Researcher Award from School of Business at Woxsen University during 2022-2023. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for international/national reputed journals such as the Journal of Big Data, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Frontiers in Physiology, Connection Science, and Healthcare Analytics.

​In addition, he is a member of the AI Research Centre at Woxsen University. He holds a research affiliation with the Woxsen Future Lab (Interdisciplinary/Multidisciplinary Research Lab) at Woxsen University. He serves as a member of the Technology Advisory Board, AI Research Centre, Woxsen University. Furthermore, he is the Program Director of MBA Business Analytics, School of Business, Woxsen University.
