OpenAI launched Advanced Voice Mode on the web
OpenAI first announced the availability of Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for its Android and iOS apps this September (excluding users in the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein). Notably, the much-expected feature was released after significant delays, and without the vision capabilities with which it was originally showcased in May. Instead of those more ambitious features, Advanced Voice Mode was given a new set of voices to choose from (Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale), which joined the original set of ChatGPT voices (minus Sky, of course). Advanced Voice Mode is also marketed as bringing faster and smoother conversations, improved accents, and Custom Instructions.
Last week, OpenAI announced it would be expanding Advanced Voice Mode's availability to its web experience, where users with Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu users can now have advanced voice conversations with the chatbot. Notably, the service has daily limits for Plus and Team subscribers, with OpenAI letting these users know when they have 15 minutes left before hitting their limit, whether on the mobile apps or the web experience. Once the limit is met, users can continue having standard audio conversations with ChatGPT.
Free ChatGPT users currently have access to a monthly preview of (AVM) on their mobile devices. However, OpenAI reportedly plans to bring AVM to the web experience, likely subject to the same usage limits, for free users in the coming weeks.
