OpenAI launched a major expansion of Codex on Tuesday, introducing six role-specific plugins, a new Sites feature, and inline Annotations as the company deepens its push into enterprise and white-collar markets.
The plugins—covering data analytics, creative production, sales, product design, equity investing, and investment banking—bundle relevant integrations, workflows, and context for specific job functions, connecting to over 62 apps including Salesforce, Snowflake, Figma, and Tableau. More plugins covering corporate finance, legal, and strategy consulting are planned.
The new Sites feature allows Codex to output work as hosted, interactive websites shareable via URL within a workspace—turning analysis, project plans, or launch materials into living collaborative hubs. An Annotations feature lets users highlight specific parts of documents or slides for targeted refinements.
Codex now serves over 5 million weekly active users, up sixfold since February, with non-developers representing 20% of users and growing three times faster than developers. OpenAI's plugins closely follow Anthropic's release of similar enterprise agents and tools targeted towards non-developers.
