Microsoft expands its presence in the UK with a new AI Hub in London
Microsoft AI EVP and CEO Mustafa Suleyman recently announced the creation of the Microsoft AI London hub, which will perform cutting-edge work on language models and their infrastructure in collaboration with Microsoft's other AI teams and partners, including OpenAI.
In an announcement penned by Microsoft AI EVP and CEO Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft announces the creation of Microsoft AI London, a hub that "will drive pioneering work to advance state-of-the-art language models and their supporting infrastructure, and to create world-class tooling for foundation models," and work closely with other Microsoft AI teams and partners, including OpenAI. Microsoft AI London will be led by Inflection and DeepMind alum, Jordan Hoffmann. In addition to staffing the new hub with an AI team based in the company's London Paddington office, Microsoft will begin actively hiring UK-based talent in the coming weeks and months. The creation of Microsoft AI London materializes Microsoft's commitment to invest £2.5 billion ($3.2B) in the UK to expand the company's data infrastructure with actions including bringing 20,000 advanced GPUs to the UK by 2026 and upskilling the region's workforce.
