Anthropic's quarterly revenue reportedly overtakes OpenAI's for the first time

Anthropic’s quarterly revenue has reportedly overtaken OpenAI’s for the first time, reaching $11.6 billion for the quarter ended in June 2026, more than double its roughly $4.73 billion first-quarter total.

The figures, described as preliminary and confidential numbers shared with investors ahead of both companies’ prospective public offerings, would mark a symbolic shift in a rivalry OpenAI has led on top-line revenue since the generative-AI boom began. Anthropic also reportedly posted a small adjusted operating profit, cited at about $559 million, though the methodology behind that figure was not made clear and the numbers could still change.

OpenAI, by contrast, is reportedly growing fast but bleeding cash. Its second-quarter revenue rose 18% sequentially to $6.7 billion from $5.7 billion, while its operating loss — including stock-based compensation — widened to $12.3 billion from $9.3 billion in the first quarter.

The split sharpens the question hanging over both companies as they court public-market investors: whether the AI leaders can convert breakneck revenue growth into durable profit. Anthropic’s reported quarter suggests one path; OpenAI’s deepening losses show how far the spending race still runs.
