Apple commits more than $30 billion to Broadcom for US-made chips

Apple said on July 8 it will commit more than $30 billion to Broadcom over multiple years, a deal it expects to yield more than 15 billion US-made chips and support hundreds of American jobs.

The commitment is Apple’s largest yet under its American Manufacturing Program and slots into a broader $600 billion, four-year US investment pledge — a bet on domestic supply as chip sourcing stays politically charged. It also deepens Apple’s dependence on Broadcom for the wireless components inside its devices.

As part of the deal, Broadcom will invest $1.5 billion to expand and modernize its Fort Collins, Colorado facility, Apple said. The site will produce advanced radio-frequency parts, including FBAR filters and wireless connectivity chips used across Apple products.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the Fort Collins components are “essential to delivering the incredible performance and connectivity our customers expect.” Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan said the expanded footprint helps the two companies create new technology together.

The headline figure is a commitment, not a single check, and Apple did not break down the spend by year or specify how many of the 15 billion chips are net-new versus existing volume shifted onshore. As a purchase pledge to a longtime supplier, its manufacturing impact will show up gradually in Fort Collins hiring and output rather than in a new fab. Whether the jobs and chip volumes match the announced scale will be measurable only as the multiyear spend plays out.
