Apple extends Apple Intelligence into redesigned Health app

Apple says its redesigned Health app will use Apple Intelligence to turn biometric histories into personalized insights and recommendations. New Apple Watch models will add readiness scores and more frequent heart-rate measurements.

Apple said its redesigned Health app will use Apple Intelligence to generate personalized daily and long-term health insights. The software is due later in 2026 with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, initially in U.S. English.

According to Apple, the new app will include an Insights tab that updates throughout the day using heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle-tracking data. A For You section will recommend content and actions based on a user’s data. Apple has not published error rates, clinical-outcome evidence or independent validation for those recommendations.

A Longevity tab will examine data gathered over time across seven health areas. Its Health Age feature can use VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and heart-rate variability, as well as A1c and LDL lab results added by the user, to compare health metrics with chronological age. Apple has not disclosed the feature’s calibration results or validation population.

The announcement adds health interpretation to Apple’s AI product lineup. DataPhoenix has separately covered Apple’s Mac mini launch for local AI workloads.

Apple also said its camera-and-watch movement assessments will use vision-based AI to deliver real-time feedback entirely on the device, without recording, storing or sharing video. The opened sources do not independently test that processing or privacy claim. Apple has not provided a feature-by-feature map showing which calculations for Insights, Longevity, Health Age and readiness happen on a device or use server-side models.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will calculate a daily readiness score from zero to 10 using recent activity, vitals and sleep score, then assign one of four recommendations. The score can change as new data arrives. Apple says the watches measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day and heart-rate variability as often as every five minutes — a frequency it describes as 24 times higher than before.

For Apple’s September 2026 comparison study, 1,460 adults enrolled and 1,254 contributed at least one paired measurement. Apple compared Series 12 readings with a Polar H10 chest strap, five competing wrist devices and Oura Ring 5 during workouts and daily activities. The company reported lower overall workout and daily-living error for Apple Watch than for each comparator. It also reported 18 indeterminate activity-by-measure comparisons and two that favored Pixel Watch 4 at rest. Apple managed three of the five study sites. The study excluded people taking beta blockers, people with contraindications to intense exercise and people with tattoos or large moles at device sites.

Apple’s Health privacy notice says Health app data is encrypted and inaccessible by default when a device secured with a passcode, Touch ID or Face ID is locked. It also says Apple cannot read health and activity data synchronized through iCloud when two-factor authentication is enabled. These are Apple policy claims, not an independent audit of the redesigned features.

Apple says U.S. users will also be able to buy a $119 panel covering more than 50 biomarkers through the Health app at about 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations. The company describes its Vitals app as intended for wellness only, not medical use. Apple has not given a specific release date for the redesigned Health app beyond later in 2026, and says availability may vary by device, region, language and law.
