AWS simplifies SageMaker Studio onboarding for new customers

AWS says its new-customer flow supports familiar-identity signup, automatic SageMaker Studio provisioning and Free Tier credits; existing-account sign-in is unchanged.

AWS has rolled out a new onboarding flow for Amazon SageMaker Studio that shortens the path from creating an AWS account to entering a configured machine-learning environment. AWS says new customers can sign up with Amazon, Apple, GitHub or Google credentials, or an email address. The company says they can skip its advanced account setup and phone verification, and that most customers will not need to enter a credit card.

AWS says the change applies only to new AWS accounts. Existing account holders will continue to sign in as before. AWS says SageMaker AI creates a Studio environment automatically in about 20 seconds, then opens the page tied to the user’s starting point. For example, a user arriving from a supported Hugging Face model page can land on a deployment page with that model already selected.

AWS says new customers receive $100 in AWS Free Tier credits for SageMaker AI endpoint deployments, model customization, Studio notebooks and model training. The company also offers a chance to earn another $100, but its announcement does not explain the qualifying actions or eligibility rules. AWS says the credits are applied automatically and the Free Tier period ends after six months or when all credits are used, whichever comes first. The company says resource use then stops unless the customer adds payment details and upgrades to a paid plan.

AWS says the environments come with permissions preconfigured for model customization, training, evaluation and deployment. Eligible accounts also receive default access to G5, G6 and G4dn GPU instances for endpoints, training jobs and notebooks, according to the company. Users can see their account’s available quota in Studio’s instance menu.

The account-creation step is the key difference from the SageMaker Studio changes AWS released in July 2026. That release added deep links from supported Hugging Face model pages, carried model context into customization or deployment screens and provisioned new Studio domains with preconfigured permissions. It still directed users to sign in with existing AWS credentials.

The launch is also separate from Quick Studio setup introduced in September 2023. Quick setup automated creation of a SageMaker domain and user profile with default settings, but it required an AWS account and an IAM role authorized to create the necessary resources. The new flow moves that simplification earlier by covering AWS account creation before handing the user into Studio.

AWS said in its product notice that the new sign-in feature is available in every AWS Commercial Region where SageMaker Studio is supported.
