Biren Technology raises about $892.5 million in a Hong Kong share sale to fund its GPU push
China's Biren Technology said on July 6 it is selling about $892.5 million of new shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to fund its next-generation GPUs.
Shanghai-based GPU maker Biren Technology is selling HK$7 billion (about $892.5 million) of new shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company announced Sunday, July 6, 2026. The sale comes just over six months after its initial public offering.
The placement shows how quickly Chinese chip designers are raising capital to challenge Nvidia in the domestic AI market. Biren is issuing 153 million new shares at HK$46.2 each, a 9.9 percent discount to the prior close of HK$51.3.
Biren said 60 percent of the proceeds will fund commercialization and mass production of its next-generation general-purpose GPUs, citing demand from cloud service providers, AI data centers and enterprise customers. Converting a fundraise into shipping silicon at volume is the harder task, and the discount signals the price investors demanded to add exposure.
The raise builds on a strong run since Biren went public. Its stock has surged nearly 150 percent since the Hong Kong IPO on January 2, 2026, which raised about $717 million. The reception to the new placement was more mixed: shares initially rose more than 2 percent after the announcement before closing down 5.4 percent on Monday.
The placement terms and market reaction rest on outlet reporting rather than a confirmed first-party filing detail this cycle, and the use of proceeds is Biren’s own stated plan. Whether the capital translates into competitive general-purpose GPUs will decide if Biren can back its challenge to Nvidia with product.
