Firefox Smart Window adds AI form filling and webpage monitoring
Mozilla is moving Firefox Smart Window beyond chat with form suggestions drawn from user-selected tabs and tasks that watch webpages for changes, with user review, task caps and regional limits.
Mozilla has added two browser actions to Firefox’s optional Smart Window beta: AI-assisted form filling based on user-selected tabs and tasks that monitor webpages for changes. The additions take Smart Window beyond chat-style help, though both remain limited to English locales in the United States and Canada.
With Smart Form Fill, Firefox identifies relevant open tabs that may contain information needed for a form, such as a resume opened alongside a job application. Users can review the suggested sources, deselect tabs or add other open tabs, then review or edit the proposed field values before filling the form. Mozilla cautions that the contextual suggestions can be wrong and should be checked before submission.
Firefox continues to insert saved autofill information, including names, addresses, passwords and payment details, from on-device storage; Mozilla says that saved data is not sent to an AI model. For contextual form fields that regular autofill cannot complete, Smart Form Fill uses Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite to detect fields and generate values from the selected sources. That task-specific choice does not change the model a user selected for assistant chat.
The separate webpage-monitoring feature allows users to specify changes to watch for, including price drops, and choose how often and when Firefox checks. A task can cover as many as five webpages, and each user can have no more than 15 active tasks. Monitoring runs on Qwen even when a different model is selected in Smart Window settings; Mozilla says Qwen currently offers the best performance and reliability for detecting changes.
When a monitoring task finds a match, Firefox can send a desktop notification, while a green dot on the Tasks button marks new results. Tasks pause automatically after 60 days without a match, and every task pauses 90 days after creation so the user can review it before continuing.
Mozilla has described Smart Window as an evolution from an AI-assistant concept into a broader browsing experience. Its privacy notice says the experience is optional and opt-in. The feature-specific support pages say form filling and webpage monitoring remain limited to English locales in the United States and Canada.
