Black Forest Labs debuts FLUX 3 x mimic robot model, already on Audi's line

Black Forest Labs published FLUX 3 x mimic on July 23, 2026, a video-action AI model that predicts robot movements — and one that carmaker Audi is already testing on production-line tasks.

Built on the company’s FLUX 3 multimodal backbone in collaboration with the robotics firm mimic, the model extends FLUX 3’s image, video and audio training to output robot actions. Black Forest Labs said Audi is using FLUX-mimic to kit parts, insert control units, assemble components and handle soft, flexible materials.

Speed is central to the pitch. The company says the backbone runs in under 80 milliseconds on a single Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card, and the full robot system reacts in 101 milliseconds — fast enough for closed-loop control on a factory line.

The model was trained on tens of millions of hours of general video plus hundreds of thousands of hours of human and robot manipulation footage. Adding action prediction initially cut video-generation quality by about 10%, which the company says fully recovered after 3,500 training steps.

Those performance and deployment figures come from Black Forest Labs and have not been independently verified. Whether the model generalizes across factories and tasks — rather than the narrow set Audi has tuned — is the open question.
