Google Cloud introduces a universal Gemini agent for enterprise work
Google Cloud introduced a universal Gemini agent that brings knowledge work, coding, media creation and persistent workflows together under shared enterprise controls.
Google Cloud introduced the Gemini agent on October 8 as a single enterprise agent for knowledge work, media creation and coding. The company says the cloud-run product folds those tasks into one persistent system that can retain context, select models and coordinate work across business applications.
According to Google, the agent can accept scheduled tasks or respond to events, and work may continue for hours or days after a user closes a laptop. The same memory, context and personalization can follow a user across the web, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac, as well as the command line, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Slack, the company says.
Google says the system separates the agent layer from the underlying AI model. At launch, it can route tasks across Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude models, with additional private and open models planned. It can also create temporary, job-specific sub-agents with their own identities, then coordinate their work in parallel or in sequence. Persistent coworker agents may receive dedicated email accounts, storage and access limited to context supplied by a user or team.
Within Google Workspace, Google says Gemini can work across Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar while carrying the same memory, skills and controls between applications. It can connect to collaboration, development, enterprise and database systems, desktop files and tools exposed through the Model Context Protocol, extending the platform context addressed by enterprise-agent architecture on Google Cloud. Shared registries let organizations publish tools and reusable skills.
Google says each agent receives an identity and role-based permissions, and its actions are recorded in an audit trail. Tasks run in an Agent Sandbox, while an Agent Gateway applies network policy between agents and external systems.
The supplied evidence does not independently test Google’s claims about security, memory, model routing or long-running execution. Google’s announcement did not specify general-availability timing, pricing, required editions or geographic availability.
