McDonald's plans phased ArchIQ rollout starting in 2027 after early Archy tests

McDonald's says it will roll out ArchIQ tools in stages from 2027 after early tests of its Archy drive-thru voice system, with expansion tied to technology plus market and restaurant readiness.

McDonald’s said it plans to begin deploying ArchIQ and other Restaurant > NEXT capabilities in sequenced bundles in 2027. It has not provided a restaurant count, country-by-country schedule or general-availability date, and says each market and restaurant must meet technology and operating-readiness conditions before advancing.

At its 2026 Investor Day, McDonald’s presented Archy as ArchIQ’s drive-thru voice component. The system takes live orders in English and Spanish, which Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski said makes near-term availability depend in part on a market’s language needs. McDonald’s also said much of ArchIQ requires edge technology in restaurants.

The company said it is testing a broader operating model that combines Menu > NEXT and Restaurant > NEXT, including ArchIQ capabilities, at four operational concept restaurants in Chicago and a warehouse restaurant learning lab. The materials reviewed do not identify how many locations are specifically testing Archy or where those tests are taking place.

McDonald’s claimed Archy exceeded 90% order-taking accuracy and said drive-thru customer satisfaction at early test restaurants was above national trends. These are company measurements, not independently established outcomes. McDonald’s did not disclose its methodology, sample size, measurement period or definition of an error.

The company also projected that Archy would free at least 50 labor hours per week as it scales. It did not specify whether that estimate applies to each restaurant, a test group or another unit. The figure therefore remains a forward-looking projection, not a measured deployment result.

McDonald’s described ArchIQ as a restaurant operating system combining automation, diagnostics, predictive alerts and coaching for crews, managers, franchisees and operations teams. Its McDonald’s NEXT strategy announcement says the broader Restaurant > NEXT program is intended to simplify operations and deploy the platform at scale.

McDonald’s said the 2027 sequence will prioritize financial impact and efficient restaurant-level training. Technology prerequisites must be in place, restaurant readiness must be verified and a market must show it can operate the next phase before moving forward.
