Meta launched a dedicated Mac desktop app for its Meta AI assistant on August 19, 2026, its first native home on the desktop. It targets creators and small businesses that market on Facebook and Instagram.

The app is a native AppKit and SwiftUI program rather than an Electron wrapper, installs at roughly 16MB, and requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. It is labeled version 1.0 beta.

Two desktop-only features stand out. Users can attach an on-screen window to a conversation so the assistant reads visible text and a screenshot to answer questions or draft content, and a keyboard shortcut triggers system-wide dictation that types into any Mac app. The Quick Invoke shortcut is Option-Space; the app also handles media generation, file attachment, task scheduling and recurring briefings.

The business hook is data. For accounts set up as professional on Facebook or Instagram, the app connects to Meta Ads Manager and Google Workspace so the assistant can answer questions using engagement and ad-performance figures. “You can ask Meta AI questions about your business and get answers drawn from the context only Meta has, like your account engagement and ad performance,” Meta said in a statement.

That framing is also the catch. The selling point is data only Meta holds about a user’s own audience, which deepens reliance on Meta’s platforms to interpret Meta’s own metrics. The app is a channel to keep advertisers inside that loop, on the desktop where they do the work.
