Micron lifts planned US chip investment to more than $250 billion through 2035
Micron said on July 9, 2026 it will raise US chip investment to more than $250 billion through 2035, up from $200 billion.
Micron Technology said on July 9, 2026 that it is raising its planned US investment to more than $250 billion through 2035, up from the $200 billion it committed in June 2025. The memory-chip maker tied the increase to surging AI-era demand for memory.
The accelerated spending is already visible on the ground. Micron completed the first concrete pour at its Clay, New York megafab more than a quarter ahead of schedule, marking the shift from site preparation to vertical construction. The New York project, planned for up to four fabs, is projected to create 50,000 jobs, including 9,000 direct Micron roles.
Micron separately said it plans up to $3 billion to strengthen the US semiconductor supply chain. That includes $500 million in strategic financing to GlobalWafers for a 300-millimeter raw-silicon-wafer facility in Sherman, Texas, paired with a 10-year supply agreement.
The scale reflects how much memory demand rides on AI data centers, where high-bandwidth memory sits alongside every accelerator. Micron said its long-term goal is producing 40% of its DRAM in the United States. Shares rose about 7% after the announcement.
The dollar figures are Micron’s own projections stretching to 2035, and multi-year fab commitments routinely shift with demand, pricing and policy. The jobs and output targets depend on plants that are years from full production.
Whether construction at Clay holds its early-schedule pace will be the near-term test of how firm the accelerated timeline is.
