OpenAI acquires NextSlide to build presentation tools into ChatGPT

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an artificial-intelligence startup whose tool turned prompts, notes and documents into editable slide decks, the startup said in a note on its website. The deal was completed earlier in 2026 and made public around August 7, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The full NextSlide team is joining OpenAI to work on presentation and productivity features in ChatGPT, the note said. The purchase points to where OpenAI wants ChatGPT to go next: generating finished business documents rather than only text and images, and doing more of the office work its 800-million-plus weekly users currently take elsewhere.

NextSlide was founded by Ahmed Beshry, who previously co-founded Caper AI, a smart-shopping-cart startup that Instacart acquired in 2021. Beshry announced the move to OpenAI in a LinkedIn post. The deal reads as a talent-and-technology acqui-hire, the pattern OpenAI has used repeatedly to add small teams building consumer-facing AI tools.

OpenAI has not said how or when NextSlide’s technology will surface inside ChatGPT, whether the standalone product will continue, or what it paid. Beshry’s track record of building and selling a startup once before is likely part of what OpenAI bought, alongside a working slide-generation engine.

AI-generated slide decks have become a crowded corner of the productivity market, and folding one into ChatGPT would put OpenAI’s assistant in more direct competition with established presentation software.
