OpenAI expands ChatGPT Ads to 26 additional countries
OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads now spans 89 countries following a 26-market expansion, with more than 100,000 advertisers having run campaigns.
OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 additional countries, bringing the advertising product to 89 countries, the company said on October 21. In the newly covered markets, advertisers can access it through technology partners or OpenAI’s self-service Ads Manager.
Since ChatGPT ads launched just over eight months ago, more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns, OpenAI said. The company also reported more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users. Neither figure was independently corroborated in the research available for this story.
OpenAI said the rollout adds 14 countries in Latin America and extends coverage across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. OpenAI named Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan as examples, but did not publish a complete list of the 26 additions.
According to OpenAI, ads appear only on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free. The company says the ads are labeled, kept separate from ChatGPT’s answers and do not influence those answers.
The announcement expands an existing product rather than launching OpenAI’s advertising strategy. OpenAI began testing ads in the United States on February 9 and expanded the product to 31 European markets in August.
On September 23, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads across seven markets in Southeast Asia and Taiwan and said the product was available in more than 60 countries. OpenAI says the October expansion brings that total to 89.
