OpenAI appoints Jill Hazelbaker as corporate affairs chief

OpenAI said Jill Hazelbaker will join the company as chief corporate affairs officer. She will lead its global communications and corporate positioning, though OpenAI did not disclose when she will start.

In the role, OpenAI said, Hazelbaker will work with company leaders to deepen public understanding of AI and strengthen trust in its mission. Those are OpenAI’s stated objectives, not demonstrated outcomes of the appointment. The hire follows OpenAI’s appointment of Dan Driscoll to a national-security role, another senior appointment announced this week.

Hazelbaker most recently served as Uber’s president and chief corporate affairs officer. According to OpenAI, she oversaw the company’s global communications, marketing, public policy, safety and people teams. Before Uber, she led communications and public policy at Snap and held senior communications and government-relations roles at Google. Her earlier work included leadership roles in U.S. political campaigns.
