SAP says it has begun rolling out Joule Work to a select group of customers for use in business environments. The move takes the cross-application AI interface beyond the early-adopter positioning SAP outlined in May, though the company did not disclose a general-availability date, pricing, eligible editions or the rollout’s geographic scope.

According to SAP, Joule Work lets employees use natural-language requests to perform tasks across SAP applications and third-party data. The product is part of SAP’s Autonomous Enterprise framework, which combines a conversational work interface with assistants designed to carry out steps inside business workflows. SAP said the assistants operate with existing data, permissions and audit trails, while customers decide how much autonomy to allow.

The October rollout marks a shift from SAP’s May introduction of the Autonomous Enterprise, when Joule Work was presented as a coming desktop, mobile and voice experience spanning SAP and non-SAP systems. A follow-up SAP post in May said Joule Work was available to Early Adopter Care customers and that general availability of its desktop experience was planned for the second half of 2026; SAP separately described the mobile app as generally available.

SAP says Joule Work is live with 110,000 of its own employees and claims a 20% productivity gain across finance, human resources and procurement. The company did not disclose the baseline, measurement method or observation period behind that figure. It also said the Knowledge Graph used to ground Joule maps more than 7 million data fields.

SAP described customer projects at different stages of deployment. Novartis procurement executive Christoph Buerki said the drugmaker had co-developed and recently launched a pilot of SAP’s Joule Sourcing Assistant. Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen executive Peter Wied said that, during the Joule Work desktop early-adopter program, information that had required up to an hour of manual work across SAP S/4HANA became accessible in seconds through natural language. Those customer statements do not establish that every workflow SAP described is in production across the rollout group.

The company also said early deployments of its International Trade Assistant reduced trade-classification effort by as much as 50%. SAP did not provide a study design, sample size, measurement method or named deployment for the claim. It said Joule can connect to third-party AI systems and agents through the Agent2Agent protocol, extending the interface beyond SAP’s own applications. For broader context on the protocol’s role in enterprise deployments, DataPhoenix has examined an enterprise-agent architecture on Google Cloud.
