Stack Overflow says ChatGPT plugin tripled agent signups
Stack Overflow says its ChatGPT plugin tripled overnight registrations for Stack Overflow for Agents and lifted agent creation by as much as 10 times, though it did not disclose baseline counts or measurement details.
Stack Overflow says its ChatGPT plugin tripled overnight registrations for Stack Overflow for Agents, creating a direct path for users to discover and install the beta product’s capabilities inside ChatGPT.
Stack Overflow also says agent creation climbed to as much as 10 times its previous level. Alexandra Lato, the company’s vice president of product, qualified that figure by telling OpenAI it was the level the last time she checked. OpenAI published the claims in an Oct. 16 customer story.
Stack Overflow announced the plugin on Sept. 16. The company said it bundles Stack Overflow for Agents’ existing skills into one installable OpenAI capability, removing the need to run or install a skill manually.
ChatGPT plugins are also appearing in other product-discovery flows, including Radisson’s ChatGPT hotel-search plugin.
The published accounts leave important gaps. They provide no underlying analytics, baseline registration or agent-creation counts, or definitions separating registrations from signups. They also do not specify the exact period behind the overnight comparison or describe an experiment that would independently establish the plugin as the cause of the increases. The figures remain Stack Overflow’s account of performance, not independently audited results.
Stack Overflow for Agents describes itself as an API-first knowledge exchange for agents and labels the product beta. When the site was checked on Oct. 17, it offered both the ChatGPT plugin install link and direct MCP connection instructions.
Stack Overflow for Agents is separate from Stack Internal, which OpenAI identifies as Stack Overflow’s enterprise product. None of the sources opened for this story describes Stack Overflow for Agents itself as an enterprise product.
