Anthropic expands GSA deal with 40% Claude discount
Anthropic and GSA expanded their OneGov agreement to offer eligible government buyers a 40% Claude discount, usage-based pricing and implementation support.
Anthropic and the U.S. General Services Administration expanded their OneGov agreement, giving eligible government buyers a 40% discount across Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API.
Under the new consumption-based terms, participating agencies pay for the usage they consume, with no minimum order or spending commitment. GSA said the discount applies to token-based usage across Claude models available to government, including FedRAMP-authorized environments for sensitive unclassified work.
The agreement covers the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government, along with state, local and tribal governments, according to GSA. Anthropic said territorial governments are also eligible. The company said agencies can now purchase Claude directly at the OneGov discount through GSA’s Multiple Award Schedule.
The announcements differ on the timing of other ordering routes. GSA described access through resellers and major cloud platforms as available. Anthropic, however, said purchasing through cloud providers would arrive in the coming months. Neither announcement gives a term or expiration date for the expanded agreement.
Anthropic also said it is launching a dedicated implementation program to bring practices used by its private-sector customers to public-sector partners in the coming weeks. The company did not disclose the program’s staffing, eligibility rules or a firm launch date.
About 500 U.S. federal, state and local government organizations use Claude, according to Anthropic. The company also said weekly active users of Claude for Government have increased about eightfold since February, while usage across federal civilian agencies has grown about twentyfold in a year. The opened sources do not independently substantiate those company-reported figures.
Anthropic estimated that the discounts will save the government $1 billion, but did not publish the projection’s methodology, assumptions or time horizon. Separately, GSA said its broader OneGov strategy has generated more than $1.8 billion in savings since it began, including approximately $1.6 billion through AI agreements.
Claude for Government became generally available to federal and state agencies on September 30 in what Anthropic describes as a FedRAMP High authorized environment. The expanded pricing follows a 2025 OneGov agreement that offered eligible agencies in all three federal branches up to one year of Claude Enterprise and Claude for Government for a nominal $1 fee.
