Apple introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip, new hardware for on-device AI workloads and a $1,999 starting price.

U.S. preorders open October 28 at 10:10 a.m. Pacific through Apple’s website and Apple Store app. Deliveries and availability at Apple Stores and authorized resellers are set to begin November 6. The U.S. education price starts at $1,899.

The base configuration has a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage. Unified memory is configurable up to 32GB.

Each of the M6’s 12 GPU cores has a Neural Accelerator. The chip also includes what Apple calls a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Both are dedicated computing blocks designed to speed up AI operations without sending the entire workload to a remote service. Apple says the system can run large language models locally and accelerate prompt processing, image generation, Super Resolution and AI upscaling.

Apple claims on-device AI workloads run up to 25% faster than on the M5 model, Neural Engine performance is up to 1.9 times faster than M5, and time to first token is up to 13 times faster than on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1. The company also claims graphics performance is up to 30% faster than on the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5. The comparisons are based on Apple tests conducted in September or October 2026, not independent reviews.

Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life, with results varying by use and configuration. No independent testing of the shipping model was available in the research used for this article.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. It has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack, and supports as many as two external displays.

The notebook comes in space black or silver, with a Liquid Retina XDR display, an optional nano-texture finish and a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera. It ships with macOS 27. Apple says Siri AI is in beta in macOS 27.2, feature and language support varies, and some Apple Intelligence functions use server-side models and carry usage limits.
