Apple opens Siri AI App Intents integration to developers in iOS 27.3 preview
Apple’s iOS 27.3 developer beta lets app makers expose content and custom actions to Siri AI through App Intents, ahead of customer availability and App Store submissions.
Apple’s Developer Preview now lets any app maker connect app content and custom actions to Siri AI through App Intents in the iOS 27.3 beta. Developers can test Siri requests that draw on their apps’ content and actions before the integration reaches customers.
The preview is also available in the iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas. This is not a general customer release: Apple said the capability will first ship to customers in a few months, while App Store submissions for apps using the integration are due to open in the spring. The company did not give exact dates for either milestone.
App Intents give system features structured descriptions of an app’s content and actions. Developers model existing content as App Entities and define actions with App Intents. App Schemas give Siri a standard vocabulary for those entities and actions, while the app remains responsible for carrying out the requested behavior.
The integration can support requests that use personal context, awareness of what is on screen and natural language. Apple’s examples include checking a delivery, booking a reservation and placing an order. The preview also adds “skills,” which let Siri AI combine several actions into one experience.
To help Siri find the right content, Apple’s technical guidance says developers can add App Entities to Spotlight’s semantic index. That allows content to be matched by meaning rather than only exact wording. Apps whose content cannot be indexed in advance can use an EntityStringQuery. View annotations or UserActivity can associate onscreen content with an entity, while Transferable representations and App Intents can pass content between apps for cross-app workflows.
Availability is limited by language, region, age and hardware. Apple lists current Siri AI support in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The five non-English languages were part of Apple’s earlier Siri AI language expansion. Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are planned for later.
Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language. On iPhone, Apple lists the compatible hardware as iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.
Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and warns that some features may not be offered in every region or language. It is also unavailable to users under 13. Features that rely on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits that can vary with the feature, request complexity, demand and policy. Apple said further details about terms and usage policies for Siri AI-enabled app experiences will follow.
