Atlassian and OpenAI expand partnership across Rovo and Codex
Atlassian and OpenAI expanded their partnership to connect OpenAI models with Rovo and the Teamwork Graph while broadening Atlassian’s use of Codex and ChatGPT Enterprise.
Atlassian and OpenAI expanded their partnership on October 6, bringing OpenAI models into more of Atlassian’s platform, including its Rovo AI product. The companies said pairing those models with Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph will allow agents to draw on organizational context from projects, documents and decisions.
OpenAI said the agreement gives Atlassian broader access to its frontier models, including GPT-6 Astra and the GPT-5.6 series. Atlassian describes the Teamwork Graph as a context layer connecting information about people, projects, documents and decisions across its products. According to the companies, Rovo combines that context with OpenAI models to support agents and reasoning features.
Atlassian said more than 3,000 of its developers use Codex through ChatGPT Enterprise in terminals, integrated development environments and code-review workflows. That figure comes from the companies and was not independently audited in the opened sources. For context, DataPhoenix previously covered a separate OpenAI Codex enterprise case study in which the productivity figures were also company estimates rather than independently audited results.
In Atlassian’s account of the partnership, Atlassian distinguishes current capabilities from planned work. The company said OpenAI models already power reasoning across Rovo and its platform, while teams can connect ChatGPT and Codex to work context through Atlassian’s Model Context Protocol connections, subject to permissions. Deeper Jira agent integrations, synchronization of local agent sessions and multi-agent orchestration with human checkpoints remain future work, with no release dates announced.
OpenAI said it will continue using Jira for critical workflows but did not quantify that use. The companies did not disclose the agreement’s financial terms, duration or contractual commitments.
