Google adds direct file generation and editing to Gemini chats
Gemini now lets users generate, preview, and edit PDFs and common work files in a chat. PDFs are supported on web and mobile, while the other listed formats are web-only.
Google has added direct file generation, preview, and editing to the Gemini app, allowing users to create and revise PDFs, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, code, and other files without leaving a chat.
Platform support differs by file type. Google said PDF preview and editing work in Gemini on both the web and mobile. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code are supported through the new workflow on the web only.
Within a chat, users can expand a generated file to full screen and type changes directly. They can also highlight text to ask questions or instruct Gemini to refine the file. In Google’s demonstration, uploaded handwritten lecture notes become a PDF study guide that can be edited manually or revised through requests to change text or visuals.
Google said the capabilities are available to all users in every language where the Gemini app is available.
