Google opens Googlebook preorders at $899 before October launch

Google opened preorders for five Googlebook laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with U.S. prices starting at $899. The move gives buyers a priced, multi-vendor lineup and firm retail dates after Google previewed the Gemini-centered laptop category in May.

The laptops are due on U.S. store shelves October 4, Google said. Retail availability is scheduled for October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. Preorders are available through the Google Store, Best Buy and selected retailers.

Google’s U.S. catalog listed the Acer Googlebook 14 from $899, the XPS Googlebook from $999 and the Lenovo Googlebook 15 from $1,099 when the lineup was checked. The ASUS Googlebook 14 and HP Googlebook 14 were each listed from $1,299. Those are Google’s current first-party prices; model-level prices can vary by configuration and retailer.

The launch models use either Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite processors, according to Google. Every model has at least 16 GB of memory, while some configurations offer 32 GB. Google also said each Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5 TB of cloud storage; its catalog limits the offer to eligible users who buy and activate an eligible device on or after October 1.

Google introduced Googlebook on May 12 as a laptop category designed around Gemini Intelligence, its name for the devices’ integrated AI experience. At that point, Google called the announcement a preview and said product details would come later in the year. The September rollout supplies the prices, preorder links and market-by-market retail schedule that were absent from that preview.
