Meta more than doubles Louisiana Hyperion campus to 5 gigawatts, over $50 billion

Meta will invest more than $50 billion in Hyperion, its AI data-center campus in Richland Parish, Louisiana, expanding planned capacity to 5 gigawatts, the company said on July 13.

That is more than double the 2-gigawatt scope disclosed in October 2025, when Meta and Blue Owl Capital formed a $27 billion joint venture for the site. Meta launched the project in December 2024 with an initial $10 billion budget; it now spans more than 3,200 acres.

The expansion adds about 7,500 construction jobs, roughly 50% more than previously announced, and will double permanent staffing to 1,000 once both phases run. Meta is targeting 2 gigawatts by 2030 and has set no completion date for the full build.

Meta said it is paying the full cost of new generation for the site, including new natural-gas plants, up to 2.5 gigawatts of renewable projects, roughly 240 miles of transmission lines, battery storage, and a memorandum of understanding to explore future nuclear power. The company committed over $1 billion to local roads, water and wastewater systems and said Richland Parish businesses have won more than $1.6 billion in contracts since construction began.

The energy plan leans on gas now and treats nuclear only as a possibility, a mix likely to draw scrutiny as AI power demand collides with regional grids.
