OpenAI expands Health in ChatGPT so medical data can inform any conversation

OpenAI expanded Health in ChatGPT on July 23 so that connected Apple Health and medical-records data can inform any conversation, not only a dedicated Health tab.

The update broadens a feature OpenAI first introduced on January 7, 2026, as “ChatGPT Health.” Users can connect more apps and data connectors, linking Apple Health metrics and medical records so ChatGPT can reference them in ordinary chats. Prior health conversations and files remain in a pinned “Health” project in the sidebar, according to OpenAI’s help documentation.

The change moves personal health data from a walled-off tab into general use, which raises the stakes on privacy. OpenAI says connected health data is not used to train its foundation models or for ad targeting, a commitment that matters given the sensitivity of medical information and one that rests on the company’s own policy rather than an outside audit.

Availability is limited at launch. Eligible users are on ChatGPT’s Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans in the United States, and the rollout starts with a select group before expanding on web and iOS in the coming weeks.

Placing health context into any conversation makes ChatGPT more useful for everyday questions, and also more exposed if the data-handling promises slip. Whether the US-only rollout widens to other markets, and whether regulators scrutinize the medical-records connection, will shape how far the feature spreads.
