OpenAI and Oracle expanded their partnership on October 27, pairing planned connections between Oracle business applications, data and ChatGPT with new Oracle offerings built on OpenAI products. For U.S. Oracle customers, the agreement also provides a route to buy OpenAI services through Oracle Marketplace today.

That procurement option is currently available in the United States. Oracle customers can purchase access to the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace using existing procurement processes and eligible Oracle Universal Credits. OpenAI said more regions will follow, but did not name them or provide dates.

Oracle AI Workspace, however, is not yet generally available. OpenAI says Oracle is developing Oracle AI Workspace, while Oracle’s product page invites users to sign up for an upcoming Limited Availability release. The companies describe planned ChatGPT plugins that would connect supported Oracle Fusion Applications, NetSuite, Oracle AI Database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, enterprise data and enabled third-party tools. Oracle says the integrations are intended to preserve existing permissions, business rules and human approvals.

The prospective workflows span finance, procurement, planning, employee onboarding, customer orders and supply chains. They are intended uses for AI Workspace, not evidence of a currently deployed, generally available service. Oracle also cautioned that its product-direction statements are informational and that features, release timing and pricing may change.

Three other Oracle offerings covered by the partnership are at different stages of availability. Oracle App Composer is accepting sign-ups for Limited Availability. Oracle says it lets employees build applications with Codex or other AI tools, connect them to approved Oracle data and workflows, and have Oracle manage deployment and operations on OCI while IT controls access, policies and costs.

Oracle is also accepting applications for the Oracle AI SMB Bundle on a limited-availability basis. The bundle combines ChatGPT, Codex, OCI, NetSuite QuickStart and Oracle offerings, and includes $12,000 in annual OCI credits for up to three years. Oracle says eligibility, access, usage and individual product-availability terms apply.

The third offering, Oracle AI Security Mesh, is described as a managed service that uses OpenAI cyber models with Oracle testing infrastructure, independent validation and safeguards to find, prioritize, remediate and retest vulnerabilities across applications and infrastructure. The announcements do not state whether Security Mesh is generally available, in preview or in limited availability, and they do not disclose pricing.

The expansion builds on an existing commercial relationship around the OpenAI API, ChatGPT Work and Codex. In an OpenAI customer profile, Oracle reported 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users inside the company. The opened sources do not independently audit those figures.
