Uber begins ChatGPT Work rollout for more than 30,000 employees
Uber is taking ChatGPT Work company-wide after a 1,000-person pilot, with OpenAI saying more than 30,000 employees will gain access for research, analysis and cross-application workflows.
Uber is expanding ChatGPT Work from a 1,000-person pilot to more than 30,000 employees worldwide, OpenAI said, beginning a company-wide rollout on Oct. 22. The deployment gives employees access to a workplace AI system for research, analysis and other multi-step tasks.
OpenAI said Uber plans to use ChatGPT Work for research, meeting briefs, presentations, data analysis and workflows spanning multiple applications. The product connects with Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Slack, the company said, allowing employees to work across those services from within ChatGPT.
GPT-6.1 Sol will be the default model for Uber’s deployment, according to OpenAI, which said the model balances performance and cost efficiency. Voice and image-generation capabilities will also be available. OpenAI said Uber is backing the rollout with an internal AI skills library, approved integrations and dedicated training for employees in operations, finance, marketing and product.
OpenAI publicly described Uber’s rollout, as it has other large enterprise ChatGPT and Codex deployments. Its announcement does not establish how many accounts have been activated or how frequently employees use the product. Uber’s 2025 annual filing listed about 34,000 employees worldwide as of Dec. 31, 2025. Uber later said it would reduce its team by about 10% in September 2026 but did not provide an exact post-reduction headcount.
OpenAI said Uber’s developers and software engineering teams will continue using Codex for software-development and coding workflows. The companies had already worked together on OpenAI-powered driver assistants and voice features before the ChatGPT Work rollout.
OpenAI said the companies plan to disclose more information about adoption, use cases and measurable outcomes as the rollout progresses. The Oct. 22 announcement did not include pilot adoption rates, productivity measures, cost savings or other independently audited results, and it did not set a date for those disclosures.
