OpenAI weighs funding round at valuation above $1.2 trillion, reports say
Bloomberg News reports that OpenAI is in early talks over a funding round at a valuation above $1.2 trillion; the Financial Times separately reported a possible $1.2 trillion valuation before an IPO.
OpenAI is in early talks with investors over a new funding round that would value the company at more than $1.2 trillion ahead of an initial public offering, Bloomberg News reported. The Financial Times separately reported that OpenAI was weighing a round at $1.2 trillion before an IPO. Neither account establishes that OpenAI has decided to proceed.
The reported figure would put OpenAI’s valuation more than $348 billion above the $852 billion post-money valuation the company announced for its previous round. That is an increase of more than 40.8%, but the comparison is only indicative: the reports do not say whether the proposed valuation and the prior post-money figure use the same basis.
Bloomberg News, citing an unidentified person familiar with the talks, said investors initiated the discussions. Whether a round proceeds would depend on when OpenAI chooses to go public, according to the report.
OpenAI said on March 31, 2026, that it had closed its latest funding round with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion post-money valuation.
OpenAI has not confirmed in the evidence reviewed that a new financing process is underway. The proposed round’s size, participants, timetable, valuation basis and final valuation remain unconfirmed.
