SAP begins phased availability of Joule Studio agent tools
SAP says Joule Studio is entering phased general availability, bringing tools to build, test, deploy and govern custom agents and reusable skills.
SAP has begun a phased general-availability rollout of Joule Studio, bringing companies tools to build custom AI agents and reusable skills within its Business AI Platform, the company said on October 26, 2026.
SAP has not said how the rollout will proceed by region, tenant or customer group, or when the phased launch will be complete. Joule Studio combines an agent builder for complex processes with a skill builder for predefined operations that Joule can select based on context.
According to SAP, custom agents can work across SAP and non-SAP systems, coordinate multistep processes, call APIs, handle documents and collaborate with users or other agents. Skills support predefined operations for retrieving data, executing transactions and connecting SAP and third-party applications.
Joule Studio supports browser-based tools as well as pro-code workflows, including developers’ preferred code editor, Git repository and AI coding tools. SAP says it draws on business context from SAP Signavio, SAP Knowledge Graph and SAP Domain Models. Centralized management provides visibility into skills, agent execution and data-privacy enforcement, while testing, versioning and deployment are built into the workflow.
Joule Work adds interoperability through Model Context Protocol tools and Agent-to-Agent integrations. MCP gives an AI system an open way to use external tools and data sources, while Agent-to-Agent connections let separate agents coordinate. For related context, DataPhoenix has covered enterprise agent tool discovery with runtime controls.
An SAP developer tutorial shows a pre-release Joule Studio lab generating MCP servers from SAP OData API specifications for a Python agent that uses the Agent-to-Agent protocol. Because the tutorial is an educational scenario, its exact architecture should not be treated as the configuration for every Joule Studio deployment.
In that lab, automated tests run after a build and cover content safety, prompt-injection resistance, MCP tool correctness and the complete retrieval-to-recommendation path. Users are instructed to pass the tests before deploying the packaged agent and MCP servers to an SAP-managed Business AI Platform service in a development landscape. SAP’s tutorial says production deployment is not performed from Joule Studio for governance reasons.
SAP is offering the agent builder at no charge through December 2026. After that, it is scheduled to become a premium AI feature. The skill builder is classified as a base AI feature.
