Snowflake and Oracle plan native AI Data Cloud service on OCI
Snowflake and Oracle plan to make Snowflake's AI Data Cloud a native OCI service sold and billed by Oracle, but no launch date has been announced.
Snowflake and Oracle said on Oct. 27 that they plan to offer Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud as a native, first-party service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Oracle would sell, provision and bill for the OCI deployment, but the companies have not said when it will become generally available.
Under the planned commercial model, customers would contract with Oracle and could apply Oracle Universal Credits toward Snowflake usage. They would provision a Snowflake account through the OCI control plane, then use Snowflake’s tools to manage warehouses, databases, data pipelines and access controls. Final pricing, discounts, service-level terms, launch regions and credit-eligibility rules have not been disclosed.
The future OCI service is distinct from what customers can use now. Snowflake says organizations already connect Oracle data sources to Snowflake through native and partner connectors. The new agreement would instead put a Snowflake service inside OCI and add planned integrations with Oracle products, including Fusion Applications for enterprise resource planning, human capital management and supply chain management; NetSuite; Oracle Database; Autonomous Database; MySQL HeatWave; and Oracle NoSQL Database.
Snowflake says the service is also intended to support data sharing, replication and failover with Snowflake accounts on other supported clouds and regions, subject to technical validation and availability. Oracle says keeping more data movement inside OCI could reduce custom pipelines, cross-cloud transfers and related egress costs. Those benefits remain company projections: the materials provide no independent customer deployment, performance results or measured cost savings.
Snowflake says its future-product statements are not delivery commitments, while Oracle says the development, release, timing and pricing of described features may change.
