Spotify and Believe sign deal for paid AI remix and covers add-on
Spotify and Believe have agreed to license a paid Premium add-on for AI-powered remixes and covers, with voluntary artist participation, royalties and links to original tracks.
Spotify and Believe have signed a licensing agreement for Spotify’s planned AI-powered remix and covers tool. The deal gives artists and labels distributed through Believe and TuneCore a path to participate.
Spotify says the tool will be offered as a paid add-on for Premium subscribers. Fans will be able to create licensed remixes and covers from participating artists’ music, rather than entirely new works.
Participation will be voluntary and follow a two-step consent process. Believe and TuneCore artists will first decide whether they want to be considered for AI-related programs. Those who opt in can then separately choose whether to join the Spotify partnership.
Spotify and Believe say streams of fan-made remixes will generate royalties for participating artists and rights holders behind the original works. Each remix made available through the tool will link to the original track and artist. The companies have not disclosed the royalty formula or revenue split.
Spotify outlined the paid Premium add-on at its May 2026 Investor Day. It said licensed covers and remixes from participating catalogs would include consent, credit and compensation. The Believe agreement adds a defined opt-in process for music distributed through Believe and TuneCore.
Spotify and Believe have not disclosed a launch date, rollout markets or add-on price. Both companies describe the tool as upcoming.
