xAI introduces Data Bot for shared analytics teams
xAI introduced Data Bot, a shared Grok Bot designed to query data warehouses, run analyses, produce reports and participate in team channels.
xAI introduced Data Bot, a shared Team Bot in Grok Bot that its data science team teaches to query a warehouse, run analyses and return results in requested formats. Multiple users can draw on the same maintained analytics expertise instead of teaching separate assistants. xAI did not say whether Data Bot is generally available to external customers, what it costs or which warehouse connections it supports.
The key difference from a personal bot, xAI says, is who maintains the skills. A personal bot depends on what one user teaches it. Data Bot instead uses a shared skill set that the data team maintains and improves for everyone, covering metrics and analysis, experiments, charts and dashboards, and data-engineering practices.
According to xAI, Data Bot can propose additions to shared memory based on its day-to-day work. Team Bot managers can approve or reject each proposal before it becomes available to all users. That review distinguishes its shared knowledge from individually maintained assistant memory. A separate Databricks Agent Memory beta offers context on another approach to persistent agent memory. The xAI announcement does not detail retention, deletion, auditing, access controls or sensitive-data handling for Data Bot’s memory.
For longer assignments, xAI says the bot can plan an analysis, query the warehouse, investigate possible explanations and produce a written report with charts. It can also build a reusable dashboard in Hex. A chart created in chat can become a dashboard in Databricks or Hex using the team’s visualization guidance.
Teams can add Data Bot to Slack channels, where xAI says it can answer questions and contribute proactively to group work. They can also schedule recurring assignments, such as tracking a metric and posting a weekly update in a team channel. Together, those capabilities take the bot beyond one-to-one, on-demand chat: it can follow shared instructions in a group setting and repeat an assigned reporting workflow on a schedule.
xAI estimates that Data Bot completed about 70 hours of work during the week before the announcement that otherwise would have gone to its data science team. The company did not provide independent measurement of that estimate or the bot’s accuracy. xAI says its data scientists still handle complex analyses that require more judgment and continue to identify areas where Data Bot needs further guidance.
