Adobe introduced new Firefly AI-powered features for Photoshop and Illustrator

Adobe introduced a Text-to-Image feature for Photoshop powered by its Firefly Image 3 Model; and is also beta-testing a Generative Shape Fill feature powered by its Firefly Vector Model. Adobe recently attributed its reported record growth to its subscription model and approach to generative AI.

Adobe recently announced a significant update for Photoshop and Illustrator introducing new Firefly AI features. The Text-to-Image feature, powered by Adobe's Firefly Image 3 Model, is coming out of beta and is now broadly available in the Photoshop app and web service. As with other image-generation tools, users only need to provide a text prompt as input to generate images that can enhance and streamline asset creation, leading to outputs that would otherwise require additional time and resources.

The Text-to-Image feature also supports uploading a reference image to gain more control over the look of the generated output. Additional controls for Text-to-Image include Content Type, to select between photos and art, and Style Effects, which allows users to pick additional refinements like techniques, themes, and concepts. Moreover, Photoshop's Generative Fill feature has an Enhance Detail mode which increases the sharpness and detail of the generations.

Similarly, Illustration is getting a new generative AI feature, although it is in beta testing. The Generative Shape Fill feature, powered by Adobe's most recent version of the Firefly Vector Model, enables users to fill shapes in ways that match their style in color and detail to create custom and consistent vector graphics. Generative Shape Fill supports Style Reference to ensure that the generated fills have a consistent look and fill, which can be further enhanced with effects, which include 3D, geometric, and pixel art. Adobe is also introducing enhancements to the Text-to-Pattern feature, which enables users to create and save vector patterns from a text prompt.

Text-to-Pattern is also powered by the latest Firefly Vector Model and now features crisper generations, new controls in the interface, and improvements in the editability of the generated patterns.

As Adobe continues to integrate generative AI features into its products, it also continues to bet in its strategy to develop creator-friendly generative AI. Adobe's models are safe for commercial use, and trained on licensed and public domain content. In the case of Adobe Stock media, Adobe pays contributors whose content was used for training an annual bonus. Most importantly, the company has decided not to charge additional fees for its generative services, which are already accounted for to a degree in the standard subscription plans. Depending on the app, standalone app subscriptions grant users between 25 and 500 generative credits, whereas the Creative Cloud subscription includes 1000 monthly credits. Adobe recently attributed its record revenue and growth to its "highly differentiated approach to AI and innovative product delivery".
