AMD has shared its plans to acquire Silo AI, Europe's largest private AI lab, for $665 million in an all-cash deal expected to close in the second half of 2024. The deal will boost AMD's strategy to deliver collaborative and comprehensive AI solutions based on open standards. The team at Silo AI, comprising world-class AI scientists and engineers with a proven record of developing hardware-agnostic AI models, solutions, and platforms, is poised to support AMD in establishing itself as an industry leader within the global AI ecosystem. Silo AI's CEO Peter Sarlin will continue to lead the team under AMD's umbrella under the leadership of AMD senior vice president Vamsi Boppana.

The Silo AI deal follows AMD's recent investments and acquisitions in the AI sector. In the past year, AMD invested over $125 million across a dozen AI companies and purchased Mipsology and Nod.ai. At the same time, Silo AI's experience in creating open-source multilingual large language models (LLMs) like Poro and Viking made it a pioneer in scaling LLMs on the LUMI supercomputer, powered over 12,000 AMD Instinct MI250X GPUs, which will be leveraged to expand AMD's AI strategy. Additionally, Silo AI led an effort to accelerate digitalization and AI adoption in 38 Nordic companies, highlighting Silo AI's capabilities to create opportunities and deliver increased value for the global community.
