Deezer and YouTube are experimenting with AI-powered features
Deezer and YouTube are testing AI-powered features for playlist creation and music discovery, including text prompt-based playlist generation and sound-based search capabilities.
Deezer announced Monday that it has started beta testing a new AI-powered feature, Playlist with AI. According to a press release, Deezer randomly picked 5% of its paying subscribers to test the new feature, allowing users to create playlists from text prompts describing anything from moods to genres, decades, and more. Playlist with AI is joining Deezer's other AI-powered features, Flow and Songcatcher.
Flow is a feature that creates an infinite stream of songs marked as favorites, along with new recommendations and music played in the past. Users' Flows can be further refined by deciding whether they want to listen to more recommendations or music they previously listened to. Flows can also be customized by picking a specific mood or genre. Songcatcher works similarly to Shazam, letting users identify and discover songs by holding their devices close to the source of the music.
In parallel, YouTube has confirmed it is testing a text prompt-based feature. Users seeing an "Ask for music any way you like" in their home feed can open a conversational interface where they can type their custom prompts or select one of the suggested ones to create a radio station based on the prompt. Additionally, the search function on the YouTube Music app allows sound-based search, which appears as a waveform icon that, unlike other sound detection tools, accepts music, but also singing, and even humming as input. The sound-based search tool was already available for a small subset of Android YouTube Music users and is now being officially rolled out for all Android and iOS users.
