Google recently announced that Veo 2, its advanced video generation model, is now available to Gemini Advanced users and as part of the Whisk creative experiment. Launched in December last year, just in time to eclipse OpenAI's Sora launch, Veo 2 reportedly represents a substantial improvement in video generation technology. In a blog post announcing the model, Google claims Veo 2 can deliver minutes-long clips in up to 4K resolution.
Within Gemini, users can take advantage of Veo 2's improved understanding of real-world physics and human motion to create videos eight seconds long at a 720p resolution in 16:9 landscape format, which can be downloaded as an MP4 file. Google says there is an unspecified limit on the amount of videos Gemini Advanced users can generate monthly, and that it will let users know when they are reaching said limit.
The Whisk experiment was launched in December alongside Veo 2. Whisk lets users input images as inspiration for the subject, scene, and style of the generation to create an entirely new image. Behind the scenes, Whisk leverages Gemini's image understanding capabilities to generate detailed imaged captions. The latter are then fed to Imagen 3, which is in charge of generating the final product. Now, with the addition of Veo 2 to Whisk, Google is debuting a new feature called Whisk Animate, which enables users to animate their Whisk creations
Whisk Animate is available in over 60 countries for Google One AI Premium subscribers.
