Google Maps has launched a suite of AI features designed to streamline interactive map creation for developers and users. Powered by Gemini models, the new toolkit includes a builder agent that generates map-based prototypes from simple text prompts like "create a Street View tour of a city" or "list pet-friendly hotels nearby."
The update also introduces a styling agent for custom map themes, helping brands maintain consistent visual identities. Developers can now access Grounding Lite, which connects AI models to Maps data via Model Context Protocol, enabling assistants to answer location-based queries with visual responses.
Additionally, Google released an MCP server that links AI tools directly to Maps documentation, simplifying API integration. These developer-focused features complement recent consumer updates, including hands-free Gemini navigation and enhanced incident alerts for Indian users, signaling Google's commitment to AI-driven mapping innovation.
