Leya raised $10.5M for its legal work-transforming AI-powered assistant

Stockholm-based Leya is a legal tech company working on a 'universal' AI-powered legal assistant that can perform simple knowledge work for lawyers and firms across all practice areas and workflows. The company recently announced it has secured $10.5 million in a funding round led by Benchmark. Hummingbird, SV Angel, and Y-Combinator participated in the funding round.

Leya conceives its assistant as something more sophisticated than a mere add-on for legal workflows; the AI-powered assistant should be seen more like a trustworthy co-worker capable of doing meaningful, although simple, work. The assistant can access files and documents where they are, combine them with legal data from over 15 jurisdictions, and provide sentence-level references to the material it uses to produce its output for Due Diligence reviews, conversations, and direct document reviews and edits. According to Leya, its ultimate goal is to free lawyers from busy work so they can focus on more meaningful aspects of their work, including higher-level strategy, creativity, and problem-solving.

The raised funds will empower Leya to grow its team and deepen its partnerships to continue shaping the future of legal work.
