Anthropic commits $150 million to expand Claude access across Genesis Mission
Anthropic committed $150 million over three years to give several hundred Genesis Mission projects Claude tools, API credits, training and technical support.
Anthropic committed $150 million over three years to expand access to its Claude models across the U.S. government’s Genesis Mission, the company announced Thursday.
Under the three-year package, Anthropic said it will provide Claude, Claude Code and API credits to several hundred research projects, along with training, onboarding and technical support for participating scientists. The company said the commitment will make Claude available to more than 15 federal agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
The White House separately listed Anthropic’s $150 million commitment as part of $2.4 billion in science tools and compute credits pledged by 11 industry partners to the Genesis Mission Consortium. Anthropic announced the commitment at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, D.C.
Anthropic also said it will help agencies new to the mission launch their first projects and work with agencies and national laboratories on administration science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing. Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding tool, while the Claude API provides programmatic access to its models.
The announcements do not say how much of the $150 million is cash rather than model access, credits, training or support. Nor do they specify project-level allocations, eligibility rules, deployment milestones or which projects will receive each resource.
The commitment follows a multi-year Anthropic partnership with the Department of Energy announced in December 2025. In July, the department reported more than $800 million in partner support spanning compute resources, model access, cloud infrastructure, expertise, research partnerships and direct funding.
Anthropic has separately described a Claude-assisted biology lab with human scientists, but that work does not establish an outcome from the Genesis Mission commitment.
The Department of Energy said Thursday that new awards brought the mission’s first-year portfolio to 297 projects. The department did not say all 297 projects would receive Anthropic resources, and the cited announcements do not report adoption levels, research productivity gains or scientific results from the new commitment.
