Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) on June 17, 2026 committed up to C$1 billion (about INR 7,000 crore) to Indian data center operator CtrlS Datacenters Ltd. through an equity stake and a joint venture for hyperscale campuses across India.

The deal adds a large institutional investor to the race to fund India's data center buildout. The commitment splits in two: INR 4,000 crore (C$588 million) buys an 8.2 percent equity stake in CtrlS, while up to INR 3,000 crore (C$441 million) funds a joint venture to develop hyperscale campuses, with CPP Investments holding 48 percent and CtrlS 52 percent.

CtrlS, founded in 2007 and based in Hyderabad, operates 19 data centers across nine key markets in India with over 370 megawatts of capacity. CPP Investments said the partnership responds to rising AI and cloud workload demand in the country.

The fund framed the move as an extension of its long-running India strategy. CPP Investments has invested in India since 2009, where it held over INR 1,850 billion (C$27 billion) in net assets as of March 31, 2026.

The figures here are drawn from the companies' own announcements. The companies did not disclose a construction timeline or target capacity for the new hyperscale campuses.
