OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models

OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna on September 22, 2026, two new GPT-6 models that follow the earlier GPT-6 Astra release. The company says the models are available in the API, in Codex and in ChatGPT Work.
OpenAI describes the two models as offering different balances of capability and cost. OpenAI says API prices are 50% lower for Sol and Luna than GPT-5.6 promotional pricing. That is OpenAI’s own comparison.
OpenAI also says the models build on Astra’s advances in alignment, showing improvements over their GPT-5.6 counterparts.
Availability
Sol and Luna are rolling out in ChatGPT Work and in Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users, and both are available in the API. Luna is also available to Free and Go users in the desktop app.
