Perplexity, the startup behind the wildly successful AI-powered search engine Perplexity Search, which is often considered a serious contender against Google's dominance, has unveiled Perplexity Labs. Labs is a new AI-powered tool that goes beyond search to help users create various work deliverables, including reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and simple web applications.

Beyond Search: From Curiosity to Action

While Perplexity's core search engine provides quick answers and its Deep Research mode offers in-depth analysis in a few minutes, Labs is designed for longer, more complex projects that require 10+ minutes of sustained work. By leveraging capabilities such as web browsing, code execution, and chart and image creation, Perplexity Labs helps its users transform ideas into finished deliverables.

Key Capabilities

Labs can generate and execute code for data structuring, create interactive web apps within the platform, and produce various file types, including charts, images, and spreadsheets. All generated assets are organized in a dedicated tab for easy access and download. These features make Perplexity Labs especially well-positioned to handle diverse projects from marketing campaigns and business analysis to meal planning, functioning "like having a team" rather than just an answer engine.

Availability and Context

Perplexity Labs is available today for Pro subscribers ($20/month) on web, iOS, and Android platforms, with Mac and Windows apps coming soon. The launch coincides with Perplexity's broader expansion beyond search, which includes a web browser called Comet (in preview) and the recent acquisition of professional network Read.vc. Additionally, Perplexity reportedly seeks to raise up to $1 billion at an $18 billion valuation.
