Workday and Snowflake launch zero-copy HR data integration
Workday and Snowflake's zero-copy integration is generally available for governed HR objects on AWS and GCP, while money data remains forthcoming.
Workday and Snowflake made their bidirectional, zero-copy data integration generally available on Oct. 12, Snowflake said. Customers can now access curated Workday HR objects in Snowflake on AWS and Google Cloud, with Worker, Position and Payroll data available now.
Customers can query this Workday-governed people data from Snowflake without building a separate extract, transform and load pipeline or copying the underlying tables. Snowflake says Workday remains the system of record, retaining Workday’s configurable semantics and source-side access controls.
For data moving from Workday into Snowflake, Snowflake’s technical documentation says an administrator creates a zero-copy connector and mounts the Workday Data Cloud catalog as a read-only, catalog-linked database. In the other direction, customers can use Workday Prism Data Management to connect Snowflake tables to Workday as external tables, also without an ETL pipeline or duplication.
The launch post describes availability on AWS and GCP. Snowflake’s deployment documentation adds that eligible Snowflake accounts can run in commercial AWS, Microsoft Azure or GCP regions, while the Workday Data Cloud side is supported on AWS. It also says cross-cloud and cross-region connections are supported.
Money data is not part of the current release. Snowflake describes it as “coming soon” and gives no release date. The companies announced the underlying partnership in October 2025, making this release the general-availability milestone for the HR portion. The arrangement is distinct from the Workday federation in Databricks Unity Catalog.
Workday describes Data Cloud as a governed data foundation for AI and analytics. Its setup guidance says Data Cloud is a separate product and that customers need an agreement with a supported partner platform and Workday Flex Credits. The integration requires a Workday tenant on Public Cloud; Snowflake’s documentation excludes government regions, Virtual Private Snowflake deployments and the People’s Republic of China.
