Onehouse raised a $35M Series B to build an open data architecture
Onehouse recently announced that it completed a $35 million Series B funding round led by Craft Ventures, with participation from existing investors Addition and Greylock Partners. The funding round will accelerate Onehouse's innovation and product development cycles. In parallel with the Series B announcement, Onehouse is also launching two new products: LakeView, a free lakehouse observability tool for the open-source community, and Table Optimizer, which automates data lakehouse optimizations.
Onehouse's vision for an open data architecture centers on empowering users to pick the right tool for each case, easily migrate between platforms if needed, and generally not have their choice of computing engine dictate storage and management options (what they call the top-down approach). Rather, Onehouse's "bottom-up" approach to data architecture centers on starting from the data to decouple the storage and management from the query engine. After ingesting, transforming, and managing data once, users can evaluate multiple engines to pick the one that best suits their needs.
The company has identified key challenges in the industry, including table format interoperability, catalog interoperability, and open compute services for data management. Regarding table format interoperability, Onehouse has contributed to Apache XTable and helped make Delta Lake and Hudi compatible. To contribute to open compute services, Onehouse is working on delivering a fully managed data lakehouse as a cloud service, making advanced data architecture accessible to organizations of all sizes.
Onehouse has established its commitment to openness and interoperability positions as a driving force towards becoming a top team responsible for delivering a leading product to its customers.
