OpenAI unveiled plans geared toward non-profits and universities
OpenAI has launched two new initiatives, OpenAI for Nonprofits and ChatGPT Edu, to provide affordable access to its advanced AI technology and models for nonprofit organizations and universities, enabling them to increase productivity, enhance operations, and drive innovative applications.
OpenAI is making its powerful AI technology more accessible to mission-driven organizations through two new initiatives - OpenAI for Nonprofits and ChatGPT Edu. These affordable plans empower non-profits and educational institutions to increase productivity and streamline tasks and workflows, leading to a better experience for their communities.
OpenAI for Nonprofits enables qualifying organizations to access a discounted $20 per user monthly ChatGPT Team rate. Larger organizations finding a Team subscription insufficient to cover their needs can get a 50% discount on ChatGPT Enterprise. In both cases, the organizations gain access to OpenAI's most powerful models, like GPT-4o, advanced tools, the possibility of building custom GPTs, a dedicated collaborative workspace, and team management administrative tools in a service compliant with strong privacy and security standards.
As part of the announcement, OpenAI has shared the stories of four organizations leveraging the technology including Serenas, a Brazil-based non-profit aiming to end violence against women and girls. Serenas has successfully unlocked new international funding sources with ChatGPT's assistance to draft effective grant proposals, adapt content, and produce materials in English and Portuguese.
Similarly, ChatGPT Edu was conceived as an affordable version of the company's chatbot ready for university-wide deployment. ChatGPT Edu is powered by GPT-4o, which means it can reason across text and vision and use advanced tools, including data analysis. ChatGPT Edu also includes enterprise-level security and control, enables custom GPT-building, and brings higher usage limits than personal-use ChatGPT. OpenAI shares that the inspiration behind the new service is the success experienced by universities including the University of Oxford, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University, and Columbia University.
