Amazon Music's new Topics feature leverages AI to help users discover new podcasts

Amazon Music has launched "Topics," an AI-powered feature that uses AWS technology and human curation to enable users to discover episodes based on specific discussed themes. The Topics feature is rolling out for Amazon Music's top podcasts and is available to US-based mobile device users.

The recently launched Topics feature enables users to explore new podcast episodes guided by the topics discussed on the specific episode users are listening to. Starting with episodes from Amazon Music's top podcasts, like The Daily, SmartLess, or This American Life, US-based Amazon Music using Android and iOS devices can navigate to the podcast episode's page to find topic tags below the episode description. When they tap one of these tags, users are shown a list of podcast episodes on the same topic.

According to Amazon, the Topics feature is powered by combining AI and human reviews. To find the topic tags for a podcast episode, its transcript and description are analyzed by AI and reviewed by humans to find the most relevant topics. Amazon expects that as the feature covers more content, there will be more topics to choose from, and the suggested relevant episodes list will improve.
