Anthropic launched an expanded suite of AI-powered legal tools on Tuesday, deepening its push into enterprise markets as traditional SaaS companies face mounting competitive pressure.

The release includes 20 Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors enabling Claude to integrate with existing legal platforms including Thomson Reuters' Westlaw and CoCounsel, Harvey, Box, Everlaw, and DocuSign. Lawyers can now access legal research databases, document management systems, and specialized AI assistants directly within Claude without switching applications.

Anthropic also introduced 12 practice-area plugins tailored for specific legal roles and tasks. The commercial counsel plugin handles contract drafting and negotiation analysis, while the litigation associate plugin assists with deposition preparation, chronology building, and brief drafting. Other plugins target AI governance counsel, employment counsel, regulatory counsel, and law students.

The legal expansion follows Anthropic's Financial Services launch last week, which featured 10 customizable AI agents and Microsoft 365 integration. According to the company, legal sector adoption is surging—a recent webinar on Claude for legal teams drew over 20,000 registrations.

The announcement comes as legacy software stocks continue reeling from January's Claude Cowork debut, which triggered a major selloff among data analytics and professional services companies. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned last week that some SaaS companies "could go bust" if they fail to develop sufficient competitive moats against AI platforms.

Anthropic's 2026 revenue run-rate has climbed above $30 billion, up from $9 billion last year, while companies spending over $1 million annually doubled from 500 to more than 1,000 in just two months as the company prepares for a potential IPO later this year.
